What is youth academy ?
The Academy is a production structure of young talented players. This structure is under your supervision and comprises :
- a recruitment staff for younglies : one to three scouts
- a youth squad : limited to 16 players
- a coach : that will help you to identify the progress and the real talent of your young players
To function effectively a team must belong to a youth league and play in a championship. Young people should play the official and friendly matches to advance. You will need to give them orders of matches every week like for your senior team.
As a president you have to give the best guidance possible to make this machinery the most effective possible. The general quality criterion will be to ultimately promote the best possible youth in a more or less important quantity. This quantity will depend on your choices and your luck.
Can I open a youth structure ?
Before you commit yourself to launch a youth training system (training center or youth academy) wonder if your club has really the necessary financial capacities. In both cases you'll need a "little" time to get a return on investment. It takes one to two seasons minimum, and expect at least two to avoid disappointment.
Open such a center in the first season of a club life is often an error. In general it is advisable to open after 2 full seasons when the club is doing well. Things like having a small financial mattresses for your pro club, or at least not have a negative cash level, are positive elements to opt for this choice.
I'm not really wealth
If you are in financial difficulty it is not worth hammer down your club so you may be disgusted by the game and eventually abandon. This would be a shame to deprive you of the pleasure of this game for this simple error.
Be patient and wait a little time to be on track. You will see the wait will not be so long. You'll have some read here on this site to make you wait. When the time will come you'll have the weapons to be much more efficient than the lambda novice manager.
Financial balance over 2 weeks reached
The investment may be variable : 5k, 10k, 15k or 20k€ depending the system chosen (10-15-20 for academy or 5-10-20 for old center). But to be truly effective you will expect the maximum so 20k€. However, you can have good results with a minimal investment, this is especially true with the Academy.
If your club has a senior training project firmly engaged, your team is doing well in championship and you do not feel cramped in your arena then you can possibly allow you to take this small risk. By opting for a limited investment in the beginning, you may increase it later with greater resources and thus improve its efficiency.
If you do not have solid training project for your senior club, putting you on credit with this new load will considerably more likely freeze the progress of your club. In this case, I strongly advise you not to open any system that is the old center or the Academy. Turn you rather to the read of a guide for your club before thinking about juniors.
The money keeps flowing
If you read this that's you are rather motivated by the training of young players and do not fear too much risk of losing a few thousand euros per week if all goes for the worst. In most cases this will not happen but rather the opposite... but you'll have to think on the long run and extend your effort the necessary time commitment to reap the benefits.
Should I prefer old youth system ?
That's a question to think about !
If you have little patience and you angry easily then the answer is clearly yes.
If you are looking for interesting challenges, dig a little in your head, meet and interact with new people, then you'll clearly prefer the youth Academy and spend a little more time on it.
