Training basics

Why train ?

I can assure you that the little guys solid or better won't fall from the sky by magic. It will take time and will need to track them from the recruitment, testing them as required and then train them as they should if they worth it.

Players begin with a varying starting level in each skill and are constrained by a potential particular to each skill (not exceeding excellent-low).

The goal of the game will be to train the player in his skills having the best maximum potentials and that combine usefully for a particular position on the field (ex: scoring/passing for a forward, scoring/winger for a forward toward the wing etc.). The goal is to make him attractive sportingly to give him the maximum cash value.

I'll try you clarify all this through an example. In real cases we do not know all the information that we will give, but we try to guess.

So let's imagine there is a player having the following characteristics :

Skill Starting level Max potential
Playmaking weak weak
Winger wretched poor
Scoring weak solid
Passing poor inadequate
Defending weak passable
Set Pieces wretched poor

It is the bold combination that will interest us in the first place. We will train the player with the aim of carrying him from the "weak" scoring level to his max potential "solid", and like this so to make him progress from "poor" to "inadequate" in his passing skill. In general we will try later if we have enough time to reach his "poor" winger potential from the "wretched" starting level.

We are not interested in his "passable" defense potential because it does not get married well with the profile of forward. It would not be interesting sportingly and therefore financially by implication.

Possible scout comments

We'll see some possible scout comments that we could get about this player.

I recall scout comments hit only the skills among the top 3 max potentials. In this exemple they are those who are bold or underligned.

Here they'll talk about one or two skills among : Scoring, Defending, Passing.

  • Without any further training, this player will remain with weak Scoring. If he develops well, I would say this chap can emerge with passable Defending before joining the senior squad.
  • Without any further training, this player will remain with poor Passing. If he develops well, I would say this chap can emerge with solid Scoring before joining the senior squad.
  • Without any further training, this player will remain with poor Passing. If he develops well, I would say this chap can emerge with inadequate Passing before joining the senior squad.
  • etc.

You can see that the comments speak about the same player and clearly we prefer the 2nd. Others do not seem really tasty or are somewhat uncertain. Yet this is a good young player. Such a young of 15 years old and it is a beautiful gold bag to fall :) A 16 years one would be also quite correct.

Train who ?

First forget the players that came with your academy they are not worth much. With a miracle one may arrive to release a passable mono-skill that will not be worth anything. So fire them one by one each week to have place to scout a real young wich may be trained. So first point only train recruits.

Secondly train the best of them. Simply put, this is the main basic idea : give the best possible training to your best young. Do everything for the better for him. If at the same time you get to drive a very efficient training (but not necessarily perfect) on the 2nd best player of this type that's very good. If you do also for the 3rd, that's half a miracle. Do not worry too much on other players they are secondary.

Third point : train only one kind of players. To minimize your risk of failure it is imperative to focus training. The type of players that you will train is the type of your best young. There are rare cases where you can have 2 or 3 players at a very high potential but a tiny notch below your best. There you could focus on the mass for a slightly lower quality. In the general case you'll train the same type of players than your best young even if it leaves to make sacrifices. Pushing to make sacrifices is the nature of the academy. The golden rule to push once and for all in your head : I can not train everybody and I will make big money not training everybody.

Train what ?

Once you've found a good young : no right to do something like 2 weeks of scoring/passing, 1 week of defending/playmaking, 3 weeks of keeper, then 2 weeks winger/passing !

You must remain focused.

Your best young has a "solid" Playmaking potential, already "weak" Passing so you choose correctly to specialize in training inner midfields. Your program for now and many weeks to come : Playmaking/passing. Go to the essentials at first to avoid confusion.

When the player's primary skill reaches its maximum you can consider working in the secondary skills with primary training.

With experience you'll learn to build cycles to marry and combine the best practices with primary/secondary trainings. So you'll be able to train young people at max in their top 2/3 skills the most efficient possible.

How does training work ?

It works like senior's training except that there are two ones. The primary is more effective than the secondary.

Training reports

Remember to follow the weekly progress of your best trained players by reading your coach reports.

They appear 24 hours after the end of the match even if the players receive training right after the match.

These comments will be helpful to see exactly, or guess where the players are precisely in their evolution. They may also identify potential talent that you do not suspect, or help guide you through your workout priority on some players.

Don't forget to reveal skills levels ! You'll be able to see player evolution if his current level is revealed. If there is a pop-up it will be updated right after a played match... no need to wait coach report :)
